desert
monsoon
Mediterranean
tropical grassland

(a) [For Foundation Tier candidates only.]
Choose one of the stations A - F.
(i) What is the temperature of the warmest month?
(1)
(ii) What is the temperature of the coldest month?
(1)
(iii) What is the difference between the temperature of the warmest month and the temperature of the coldest month?

(1)
(iv) Describe the distribution of the rainfall during the year.

(2)
(b) [For all candidates]
Choose one climate type.
(i) Which climate station, A - F, represents your chosen climate type?
(1)
(ii) Explain how you made your decision in (i).

(2)
(c)

[For candidates who have chosen desert climates, only]

  (i) Explain why your chosen region only receives low rainfall.

(2)
(d) [For all candidates except those who chose desert climates]

2 Vegetation has to adapt to suit the climate of the region where it is found. Describe three typical features of the vegetation found in your chosen region. For each of those chosen features, explain how it is specially adapted to suit the climate.
(6)

3 (a) Describe one typical feature of the soil of your chosen region.

(2)
  (b) Explain one way in which the soil is influenced by the climate in this region.

(2)

4 (a) In many regions of the world people are damaging the environment through poor farming practices and other types of land use. For your chosen region describe one way in which land use is damaging the natural environment.

(4)
(b) Describe one way in which the environment in your chosen region can be used in a more sustainable way ('sustainable' means reducing the damage that is done to the environment so that the environment can be used now and preserved for future generations).
